American Idol Top 3: 3 Songs

Update: Elliot is gone, barely. Everyone got 33%. They had to get into micropercents. Finals next week!

Why should I even bother without Chris? OK, well, I do love me some Taylor, Katharine, and Elliot. But still, no Chris. Whadda bummer. Tonight for each of the finalists, Clive Davis picks a song, the judge pick a song, and the contestants pick a song.

Clive Picks:

• Elliot: “Open Arms” by Journey. Oooh a rock song! I forget I actually LIKE Journey sometimes. He got to show emotion, personality, very very good. Simon: “Loosen up and start believing you can make the finals.” 4.5
• Katharine: “I Believe I Can Fly” by R. Kelly. Clive wants her to dig down deep in a newer song. Our stupid channels are coming in so scratchy. Grr…. Only a couple of little bops. Too bad I’ve always hated this song. Randy: Song choice problem. Kat: I didn’t pick it! 4.25
• Taylor: “Dancing in the Dark” by Bruce Springsteen. Taylor can command stage AND get the lyric. Oooh, they got Bruce’s special permission to do it. Hahahah, got Paula on the second stage. He just has so much expression in his singing voice. Plus he’s the most fun.4.5

Judges Pick:

• Elliot: Paula’s pick “What You Won’t Do for Love.” Picked it to show his funky side. Yep, that was very coooool. A little sharp, yeah, maybe. Very short and abrupt ending too. 4.5
• Katharine: Simon’s pick “Somewhere Over the Rainbow” He thinks it is the perfect song for her. That was freakin’ hard and she really did totally nail it. God I hate it when they show her crying dad!!! 5
• Taylor: Randy’s pick “You Are So Beautiful” It’s his vibe. He did right by the song. The judges lurved it! 4.5

Contestant Pick:

• Elliot: “I Believe to My Soul” Sounded great, but really, why save their own crappy picks for last? 4.25
• Katharine: “I Ain’t Got Nuthin’ But the Blues” Too playful cabaret in my opinion. But of course, she sounded perfect. 4
• Taylor: “Try a Little Tenderness” Welp, that definitely got him in the finals. Slow and sweet and then powerful and rockin! 4.75

Well, I’m actually rooting for a Taylor/Elliot finale now. Although Katharine sounded great and looked great, she’s just not as genuine an artist as the guys. Or something I can’t express well.
