As usual, first summary, then thoughts…
Main story: Sun and Juliet trek to the medical hatch, where Juliet tells Sun the baby was conceived on the Island, and she gon’ die. Juliet then leaves the information on a recorder for Ben.
Substory: The parachutist has a branch stuck in her lung and is dying. She speaks several languages, also. Hurley accidentally shoots the parachutist’s flare gun, which draws MIKHAIL! to their location. Jin chases him down and Desmond offers a trade: You, the Soviet medic, fix the parachutist and I’ll let you go. He does, tries to take the satphone, which Jin rescues, then Des lets him go, much to Charlie’s disagreement. The parachutist reveals that Flight 815 was found and there were no survivors.
Sunbacks: Sun is forced to give a woman (Jin’s mother) $100,000 to shut up about the fact that Jin is the son of a prostitute. Sun gets the money from her father, who “promotes” Jin to hitman/goon as payment. Sun also meets Jin’s adorably sweet father, who makes her swear to never tell Jin they met.
Instant thoughts:
- Did Mikhail say “Wounds” or “Rules” are different on this Island?
- 90 days now…That makes it late December 2004. Will they celebrate Christmas? Or will the tragic 2004 tsunami have any bearing in the plot?
- The parachutist was obviously not saying “Thank you”… some say she said “I am not alone.”
- What if Juliet is lying to Sun and Ben? What if the baby WAS conceived off the Island? This means Sun and the Baby could survive, making Juliet’s research look legitimate and successful. This would mean Ben may have to let her off the Island. In this scenario, Sun survives (good), Ben loses (good), Juliet wins (good), but of course, other women don’t survive (not good).
For this theory: Juliet will do anything to get off this Island. Against: She looked honestly surprised when Sun was happy the baby was Jin’s and she would die. For: Juliet hates Ben. Against: Juliet seemed genuinely upset to have to coldly tell him the news. - I believe Juliet when she says she wishes she could give good news to people again.
- And damn, yet more evidence they really did want Kate/Sawyer to breed. Gross!
- I do NOT think, however, that Juliet/Jack are meant to actually breed. That would endanger Juliet’s life and she’s too important. Also, she never got pregnant from Goodwin that we know of.
- And considering spermies are 5 times more numerous on the Island…
- What do you think of an Island that makes men 5 times more fertile but kills women that become pregnant?
